I could see through the wood and brass
his body, cold, lifeless.
A seafaring man fighting for country,
raising three children,
ministering prayers.
I search persistently for that lost life,
its fullness, its vibrancy.
Maybe it is in the strange flower
I found in the garden,
the one I know I didn’t plant.
Or in the poem that writes itself,
seamlessly, despite me.
Life not extinguished, transposed.

I still haven’t worked out the spacing on here. It doesn’t work for me.
And for some reason it has chosen to put this in one block instead of verses. I got fed-up and posted it anyway! 🙂

This is such a good poem, how you might find that life in that flower, in the poetry writing. You write really very well. I bet one day your book will be in the bookshelf next to David’s 🙂
I found out if you do the editing in “HTML” in stead of “visable” in the edit screen, you can do single white lining and double white lining easily! (Now I hope that makes sense lol)
Love and a big hug!

Thank you very much Ina!
I’m not so sure about the book, but it’s a warming thought!
And thank you for your advice on the spacing. I will try and see if I can get it right.
Love and hugs

Hi Christine,
I found this poem of yours most peaceful and moving. The emotion is quite touching.
I like your transition from memory to the flower in the garden, to the poem. The transition of life can indeed be a difficult one but it can also be one that moves us to a certain place of wonder. At least that’s what I felt from your words.
I like this poem a lot. It brings me to a place, a good place of stillness.
Thankyou so much for sharing.

That poem come from a deep place, deeper than the sea.
It touched me – like him, I was once a seafarer.

Thank you Harry for this lovely comment.
It is reference to my father, Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy.
