Mad as a Hatter – Happy Easter!

When I recently had eye surgery
I needed to take oral steroids for
two weeks prior to the operation.
Apparently they affect people in
different weird and wonderful ways!

Mad as a Hatter

Two o’clock in the morning,
wide awake
craving computer;
I have sale fever,
Add to basket – click!

Enticingly essential,
the teapot for one
dotted with bright
promises of Spring,
sits, incongruous
upon its stoical cup,
from which could
only be taken
delicate sips of
sheer elegance.

I begin to ponder
the wisdom of this
impulsiveness,
when the tiny
porcelain snail
perched on top
of the lid looks up
at me, winks,  and
gives me his blessing.

    LOL Hi Christine,
this is great, yes it must have been the meds!
This is one of those wonderful poems only you can write I think. You have a very beautiful sense of humour! The snail was probably happy to be bought! But in a way, it is a charming little piece of happy pottery 🙂
Sale fever… ooh boy. Reminds me of a poem with a credit card in Barney the Parrot 🙂
Good luck with the project you are working on.
    Love and hugs! xx

      Thank you Ina!

“Little piece of happy pottery” – what a lovely phrase!!

Yes I am sure it was the meds but I do love it! I haven’t used it yet mainly because the cup isn’t big enough! But I look at it every day on my kitchen counter and smile as the little snail winks yet again!! LOL:)

And I remember the credit card poem too! 🙂

      Love and hugs xx

Christine, this is great! In its own way as imaginary as Lucy in the sky etc…! You know what they say, if you can remember the 60s you didn’t have a good time! 😉 Wonderfully imaginative, funny, and a joy to read.

      Thank you David!

LOL It is a bit “Lucy in the skyish” isn’t it!! I didn’t actually dabble in the magic potions of the 60’s except I did get legless on Cherry B’s quite often!!:) That was quite enough for me!! I had a good time – I think!! 🙂

Yay!! Great poem, Christine! To do something a little mad, a little fun, a little frivolous… just because… to make your heart sing… will ALWAYS bring to life the little snail that sits on top of life’s tea party so that he can wink and give you his blessing. 🙂 Loved it, my friend xox

How precious…both your poem and your purchase, Christine! You did good–impulsive are sometimes the best thing for us!

Blessings for a Happy Easter! Hugs, Diane

PS (I am a teapot collector…wherever did you get this one? It is absolutely charming! And that snail is winking my way too…)

      Thank you Diane!

Yes I agree impulse is sometimes good! This proved so because I look at it every day and see the tiny snail wink at me! It has another snail hiding among the leaves in the cup and a cheeky little ladybird too! It gives me so much pleasure.

I am tempted to collect teapots now! I mentioned it to my daughter after I had bought this one; she did her usual sigh! That made me ever more determined (that’s the child in me coming out – sometimes she is more out than in!):)

This teapot is made y Price Kensington – they have some lovely stuff! Stop me now!!! I have no excuse now the steroids have stopped!:)

      Much love

      Christine xx

Christine, I love this poetic description of an impulsive moment, which I would say had a positive result. What a sweet, whimsical teapot that is – with the smiling snail on top. And I don’t doubt he really winked at you. 🙂

    Hi Christine,

Awwww, this is such a happy and gorgeous piece! And the poem too!! I love your description of giving into temptation and what an adorable bit of temptation. The snail is just too cute!
Sometimes meds are blessings in disguise? 🙂 These kinds of pieces of whimsy are great to have around I think. It’s good to smile. Your poem and new tea pot certainly did that for me. 🙂
I hope you are soon able to enjoy a cuppa of sheer elegance soon and that you are doing well and had a good Easter. 🙂

    with much love and

      Thank you Tikarma!

It’s a good job the meds were only for two weeks!:)

I quite enjoyed the feeling they gave but it could only be short term. It also felt very unnatural, and on a more serious note brought back feelings of alcohol frenzy – somewhere I definitely don’t need or want to go.

But I do so love my teapot! 🙂

      Love and

I’m smiling, Christine, smiling! May the snail on the teapot wink at you for a very long time yet. Do not forget to wink back, unless the yellow fellow is being fresh, then stick out your tongue at him. Your sense of humor is often wonderful.
