Borrowed Canvas

I attempted to reblog a post entitled Borrowed Canvas by my good friend Bennetta Faire. But the picture was huge and WP wouldn’t allow me to change it. I sent it to trash and started again but now it says it is already reblogged and I cant do it again!! So not to be defeated I am doing it this way! The picture is by me and Bennetta very kindly wrote an exquisite poem to accompany it.

Bennetta is a very talented poet and writer at

Indigo Moon-Dazed.wordpress.com

oil pastel 011

Of sky, or heart—same
Canvas, stretched to hold starbursts
Alight, love’s palette.
Life: daubs, brushstrokes—joys, trials—
Sobs flash, pale….‘mid wonderments.

Passion’s Rose—flowers,
Turns magenta, on strong vine.
Cool wisdom—rain runs
A river, feeds green streams, sun-
Warmed for dipping toes, growing.

Leaves, brown-crisped in fall,
Precede slow whispering snow;
And we’ll lie, mittened—
Making crystal angel wings;
Singing spring blooms’ sure return.

Colored flurries: pulse
Beats, marv’ling breaths—living art;
Seasons, rhythmic, drift.
Creator’s hand, grace Spirit—
Heaven, borrowed for a time.

Pink peonies, blue
Misted trees; fog flourishes
Of distant friendship—
Dear artist-poet, handmaid-
In-waiting, beloved by God.

Thanks Peter. It’s just me messing with oil pastels and merging colours. I am certainly no artist but I’m training my left hand to do things now that my right one has given up.

Ah Christine, you said you were not an artist? I must disagree! The poem is excellent in its “painting” the work. However, your title is rattling around in my grey matter demanding to be written and take me where it will… 🙂 xxx

I shall have to check out your friend’s blog.

      Thank you Lea!

Bennetta has had a few blogs but she stopped one or two and now has this one. She used to post lots but at the moment she is concentrating on her novel.

    Hi Christine,
I’m so glad you blogged your artwork! I remember saying on facebook or Jackie Bear said it…I get confused between the two of us *sheepish grin* that this piece would look excellent screen printed.
At the gallery I volunteer at we have silk scarves with designs very similar…YOU have Talent!!
How lovely to have your friend write such a beautiful poem to go with your work. It sits with it just nicely. 🙂

Thankyou for sharing your work and the poem. It was a lovely break from painting for me. 🙂

    With lots of love
    And (((Big warm Hugs)))

Glad you enjoyed your painting break and popped over for a visit! 🙂

      Lots of love and

      Thanks so much Lauren!

Ive only just started playing with pastel colours. Its therapeutic and feels like meditation as I lose myself totally in the experience. But I cant draw at all! Stick men are my limit! And Im having to train my left hand to do what my right one used to, so playing with these colours was a good start. I hqvent done anymore yet! Lol

It’s great that it helps and I can’t draw either! Your stick men are probably better than mine! hehe! I can’t wait to see the next gorgeous creation. Painting is not one of my talents. But my nephew, who is now 30, is a wonderful artist, drawing, painting, anything. He’s had some exposure, but I’m hoping he’ll make it big one day; he is very deserving. He is showing his art in a show this fall, which we hope to go to. It’s in southern Cal., so we’d visit my family, too. Anyway, lovely work, Chris! xoxo ♥

I think you either have it or you dont! Lol. But an artist in the family! Thats wonderful; you will feel so proud visiting his exhibition. 🙂

But this keeps me content so I will have anorher go. Xx❤

Lovely poem, and a beautiful picture you are an artist.

Do you not know how to alter a picture size it in dashboard ( smaller or bigger ) I can tell you.

Sorry for the delay Harry, your comment was sent to spam and Ive only just seen it add brought it back!
I do know how to change the size of a picture but for some reason it wouldnt allow me to alter it. So as it seemed to be a WP error I trashed the whole thing and started again but I wasnt able to reblog as it said I had already done it!!

I can complicate things very easily myself without the assistance of WP!!! lol 🙂

Every time I see your painting I feel that I am lying back on the grass looking up at the sky through the branches of a tree!! 🙂

Which would be a lovely thing to be doing this morning 🙂

Bennetta really captured your painting which for me is like a rainbow bursting its seams, as it were! She is a wonderful poet and spirit … and I hope you keep on ‘messing around’ with paints and words for a long long time!

I love the ‘personal’ message in the last stanza:
    ‘Pink peonies, blue
    Misted trees; fog flourishes
    Of distant friendship—
    Dear artist-poet, handmaid-
    In-waiting, beloved by God.’

May I borrow to send to you, too? XO ♥

    Thank you Diane.

The last stanza brought tears to my eyes. And my next favourite one is the winter one, “we’ll lie, Mittened – making crystal angel wings”, just beautiful.

And of course you may borow to send to me!! :). 🙂

Thank you very much Debbie. Im sure Bennetta will read these comments; I will remind her! She did indeed do a fantastic poem; she is very talented and I think she paints with words, whereas I simply “mess with colour”. I enjoy it though, and find it almost the same as meditation. in fact sometimes my thoughts stay in the background much better when I am doing this than tryingo concentrate on the breathe etc. xxx

A wonderful poem – and I’d really love to hear that read, I’m sure with the right voice it would sound beautifully dreamy! And a really lovely piece of art Christine, love those colours, so soft! 😀

I know what you mean with the reblog, you never know how they are going to come out, very weird, is often the answer! 😐 I hate the way WordPress won’t let you do it again if it’s gone wrong – they should spend their energy trying to fix that, instead of all those make-overs they give the graphics on the dashboard and the reader – they seem obsessed with tweaking all the wrong things! 😆

      Thank you very much Suzy!

I would love to hear it read too Suzy; actually I think Bennetta could do it herself, she has a lovely voice which I have only just met! She lives in America and I am in the UK, and she has called me a couple of times; its wonderful to put a voice to a virtual friend, we seem real to each other at last!

And as for WordPress!! It seems to have been putting all its energies into sending comments to Spam lately! I and a few others have had problems with this; it’s a pain in the neck, or somewhere else!!! Lol

I have been trying to comment on your reply to me on your blog but WP or maybe my IPad are playing up. I will try later,, but you ask what happened to my right hand. Sadly its the MS that has taken its toll and I have a lot of muscle weakness on the whole of my right side. My hand doesntt work at all now so I am having to train my left hand! Poor thing wonders whats happening to it!! 🙂

As I have said above, I cant draw for toffee as the saying goes. but I do enjoy merging the colours and simply seeing what artives on the paper!! And I was honoured when Bennetta said she would like to write a poem to go with it.

Watch out for more masterpieces! Lol
