Looking back and moving forward into 2013! – plus an Acrostic!

I have been here on WP since August 2011,and during that time have read some wonderful blogs and made many new friends! Thank you to all of you for your encouraging words which have helped me to keep going with my poetry, especially during the times when the bin has been overflowing!!  It is a joy to be here and I am learning more every day.

One thing I have now started to take an interest in is poetry form. I still know nothing bout most of these. But a very good friend on here posts quite a few acrostics, which fascinate me. So as it’s Christmas and I haven’t got a seasonal poem to post I thought I would have a go at a simple one and run it by you all to see what you think. Please tell me if I have got it wrong or if it’s rubbish!! I can take it!!!!

I am including a picture of a flower from my garden, not because it has anything to do with the poem but because these few words look lonely by themselves and also it is a chance for me to pick your brains! This flower which was photographed by me in the summer, has been a puzzle to me and many friends. We thought at first Magnolia but I don’t think it is. Then Jasmine was suggested, I have no idea!! What do you think?

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and look forward to a New Year of inspiration!!

ACCEPTANCE

Ability to let go
Creating space to
Come to freedom
Entering a new
Place of calm
To be cherished
And nurtured with
New breath and
Compassion
Experienced with joy

What am I??

I’ve not done this type of poetry and I haven’t read that much of it either, but this looks very good to me, and conveys a wonderful place to be! It’s a place I’d like to be in more often! 🙂

Your photograph of the flower is really beautiful – a lovely thing to look at on a frosty trying to snow day! But I have no idea what it is though! I love flowers, but I’m not into gardening and plants etc, so not much help there afraid!

A lovely poem and congratulations on your first anacrostic. I think you might be right about the flower – it looks like a star magnolia, which is one of my favourite spring flowers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnolia_stellata

Thank you Tricia for your lovely comment.

Its so easy to write about acceptance, and so difficult to practice it. I am in the throes of an argument with it right now and I am fully aware this only creates more suffering for me. I guess its all part of the process of healing and also part of being human. I have a long, long way to go with all this.

Sending you love across the miles

    Christine,
Ethel and I received your book, Journey Into Poetry, yesterday through the mail! We were excited to receive it. I started reading it before the sun came up this morning, and Ethel read more of it than I have as of yet when it showed up yesterday, but I’ll email more reactions when we both have had time to finish it. Thank you!

Very well done…perfectly, Christine. A very meaningful topic too. I’ve done a few of these myself…one just a few days ago. There’s a few different varieties of magnolias. Is it on a large tree? Since your flower looks “frilly” and more delicate than some…it could be a Japanese Magnolia.

I was not familar with that style of poetry, so I had some difficulty getting my head round it. I admire your willingness to “have a go” and try out new and different styles. As for thr flower. It looks very nice, and thats all I know about it

Ah, another recruit to the formal verse cause. Knew we’d get you in the end. This is lovely, Christine: the form supports and underpins the poem, instead of dictating it. I love the constraint of verse forms, as you know, and I think you’ve made it work really well here. Encore! N.xx

I love this Christine. I can feel the letting go creating the opening to allow something more nourishing and comforting to take over. It’s sort of like the idea of being reborn.

To me, it feels like the flower does have something to do with the poem – the dead wood no longer being supported, thus creating an environment for the flower to bloom. Really cool poem. 🙂

One step back, two steps forward! I don’t think we will ever reach a place where we can stop trying, but I like to think that each time we fall, we end up a little ahead of where we started (I hope so anyway 🙂 ) I hear ya though. It ain’t easy sometimes!

Yes Janet, I agree with what you say completely about being ahead of where we started each time we get up after a fall. And if we have the odd day when trying again feels too much, tnen thats ok. We need to be kind to ourselves too; in my humble opinion anyway! 🙂 xx

Beautiful acrostic, Christine, and my thumb is far from green, so I have no idea what kind of flower this is. It’s very pretty, though, and since I haven’t read the other comments, I won’t know what kind it is! Unless you fill me in later! Anyway, a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hugs! xoxo

The flower has been a bit of. puzzle but someone here suggested it’s frilliness suggests it could be Japanese magnolia, so that’ll do for me!

Thank you for taking time to visit and catch up, it is very much appreciated.
