Solomon’s Light

Who cares
about avoiding cliché?
Your presence is like
a magic patch of sunshine
on grey November days.
When your smile
peeps round the door
there is a bright light and
my fears know that for now
they are beaten;
you are the breath of fresh air
that I crave.

And today
when you toddled
full length of the room,
successfully for the first time,
bearing a gift especially for me –
two stickle bricks in a pan –
I knew that this was the start
of something big.

Ahhh, so sweet! And the two stickle bricks in a pan just got me…is that something in my eye? The start of something big indeed, especially with a regal name like Solomon:-) How precious to be present to share that moment with him, and how kind of you to share it with us:-) Love and hugs, H xxx

Cynthia you just made my day. I was strugling to make this a ‘good” poem but I knew it wanted to be writren so I kept it simple and just said how I felt. Sometimes simplicity works. 😊

A beautiful little boy, and a great gift to not only you but (through your loving poetry) to all the rest of us as well! I can clearly see him doing that tiny-tipsy walk across the room to you, and it makes the sun shine here, too! 😀

Thank you Norma! He is such a little love, just developing his own precious personality! He is number 5! I wonder if that’s it now?! Although we do have a younger daughter who hasnt even started thinking about motherhood yet! 😊 x

Im sure it will happen for you! We thought it was never going to be and then suddenly they were popping up all over! They are all 5 and under And when we are altogether as we will be for New Year it is mayhem and madness! 😊. We dont see three of them all that much as they live in Ireland although they try to come over to England to stay with us as much as they can; the other two, little Solomon in the poem, and his brother Theodore (4), live about 30 minutes drive away which is lovely and we look after them one day a week while mum is at work.I love it; they keep me going 😊 xx

Oh, I’m glad this one is going in! Anything ‘official’ can be so frustrating. I always try to tell myself that a delay is just a wait for the timing will be perfect – sometimes I’m persuaded and sometimes not. 🙂 XO ❤

Thank you so much Jane. I have been complaining about the tax office taking too long to give me a number before the book can go out and then this poem popped up and Deborah suggested it be included! Sometimes it’s worth waiting! ❤️ Xxxx

She is adorable and the verse as genuine and beautiful as ever. It is exactly a week since I became a Grandfather. Life being what it is, my daughter lives a four hour drive away but I am booked to go and say hello to the little man in two weeks time, and to say I am looking forward to it, does not really cover it

    Hi Christine!
Wow, he’s walking already! Seems like he was just born. You’ve captured this moment so sweetly – never cliche’! And the photo is precious.
Hope the weather hasn’t been too severe there yet. (We had our first little snow last night.)
    Take care! xxoo

Betty, my apologies! I can’t understand how I have only just seen your lovely comment! Thank you. I know, how time flies! I feel very blessed to have the chance of toddlers all over again. And it doesn’t matter how many you have each latest addition to the family is just as joyous end exciting as the first!

Well when you wrote this comment the weather was cold but not as bitter as it is now!! 😄 Sending love and hugs xxx

Christine, no apologies needed! That’s happened to me before, missing comments (and/or never getting around to replying). It’s hard to keep up here these days. And thank you for the nice email – I’ll be answering that soon. January is always a little slower than usual for me.
Hope your new year has been going well so far (and that your book gets published soon!)
Love and hugs to you, as always! xxoo
